Action
figure
The Action figure
is an accurate representation of the game's protagonist that it is based on. it
is a fully 3-dimensional model that can be printed using a 3D printer. Due to
current government restrictions, the 3D printer is not accessible however the
figure would have been printed otherwise. The figure is a simplified version of
the game character as most action figures for my age group of 13+ are. If the
figure was being made at a higher quality for a different age demographic then
the figure would require more detail. The figure has an accurate level of
detail and represents the protagonist clearly.
The
storyboard for the advertisement is clear and the game is presented accurately.
The directions of each section of the storyboard are detailed well, although it
is not completely clear as to which direction the story flows in as the boxes
are not numbered whereas the descriptions are numbered. The advertisement does
a good job at showing the main focus, the setting, and the antagonist of the
game while simultaneously keeping some mystery about the game to create
intrigue. The advert could improve with numbered boxes and also by having a
fully finished advert, however, the resources needed to create an animation
were not available. The advert does well to include the game case in the final
box which incorporates multiple parts of the merchandising.
Game case
The game
case clearly shows the main aspects of the game in its artwork, the main
character, the main setting, and the main focus of the game, the stone. The
protagonist is holding out their helmet to suggest that they are handing it to
the player which pulls the player in. the protagonist is also holding the main
item in the game which shows what the game is about. The setting is clearly
shown by the background. The title is prominent on the front cover as well as
the spine. The game case also includes certain points that are common on game
cases such as the game developer's logo, the game's capabilities, and the
platform that the game can be played on.
Lunchbox
The lunch
box is a very simple minimalistic design that is wrapped in hieroglyphics that
show the setting and feel of the game. The black and white design connects to
the feel of the game, this is because the game is for people over 13 and is a family
puzzle experience. The design also shows the setting of the game.
Xbox
controller
The Xbox
controller, like the lunchbox, has a hieroglyphic design that sticks with the
ancient Egyptian aesthetic. It has gold coloured metal for the directional pad
and bumpers as well as an engraved game title along the bottom of the
controller which parallels the treasures of the ancient Egyptians. The buttons
and power button are a gemstone red like the central theme of the gem, or
stone, in the game.
Pop Vinyl
figure
The Funko Pop figure is based on the antagonist of the game, Tumen Karoon, he has a mummified body with a Pharos sarcophagus over his head, hiding his face, this perfectly shows that the main protagonist is an ancient Egyptian and also undead as he is mummified. A crack in the covering reveals a fragment of a glowing gem embedded in his eye to create mystery surrounding the character and who he is. The figure is a photoshop idea of a popular toy brand by Funko, In an email asking for feedback about the design, the Funko team replied with great advice. They liked the design however said that the section around the eye could do with a little more depth. They also advised me about copyright and how they own the rights, so if this design was to be developed into a functioning figure it would have to be through Funko. Funko was also cited in a social media post about the design.
Mask
The mask is
a simple design that prominently features the Logo of the company with a simple
black background. This design is not too imposing and would be easy to wear.
Protective masks are recently being used frequently and many people look for
new masks that they can wear that are not bland. This mask is a good mix of a
bold design while also being simple enough to be worn.
Shirt
The shirt is
a simple black and white design similar to the lunchbox and controller which
keeps with the ancient Egyptian style. The hieroglyphics work very well as a
shirt design and come together to create a fashionable design. By cutting off
the design at the elbow an illusion of a double sleeve design is created which
is a good design choice that deviates from typical video game shirts while also
sticking to what is common in the industry. The company logo is also featured
on the label of the shirt for added detail.
Comic
book
The comic
book is a 2 page comic including the front cover, it shows a simple scene from
in the game that explains the concept of the game without giving away too much
information. The design is a common comic book design that changes near the
start to accurately depict two halves of the protagonist's life. Like any other
comic book of the style, it is grainy which goes with the style of the game
which is set in the mid 20th century. The cover features the main aspects of
the game and also of comic books such as a barcode, price, title, issue number,
Author/Illustrator name, logo, and artwork. The comic front cover is focused
around the stone which is the main part of the game.
Poster
The game
poster was created in photoshop to show how the setting of the game would look
realistically. A temple is shown overlooking the pyramids which clearly
represents the setting, The tile is featured in large font however this has
since changed from “The Stone” to “Al-Hajar” which is the Arabic for The Stone,
this is more accurate as the official language of Egypt is Arabic. The poster
also shows the creator's name and also the developer's name. the poster would
have benefitted by including the developer's logo as well which has since been
created. The website is included on the poster and social media. A small slogan
is also on the poster “ find the stone find your home” this is perfect for the
game as it is very open to interpretation by whoever reads it.
Logo
The logo
features prominently red, black, and white. This shows a family connection
while also showing that the company produces games for a mature family audience
or a PG-13 audience. MBG stands for Maximus Boethius Games a simple acronym of
the game companies name.
